Hardy Amies received the award of a Royal Warrant as official dressmaker of Queen Elizabeth II in 1955. This gave his house respectability and publicity. Knighted in 1989, Amies held the Warrant until 1990, when he gave it up so that younger designers could create for the Queen, although the House of Hardy Amies was still designing for her under Design Director Jon Moore until 2002.
