 Born in 1951 in Chang-Hua, Taiwan, Shiatzy Chen's love for fashion made her start as a seamstress. Although never had formal fashion design education, her passion and dedication steadfastly built up her strength and created a unique style exclusive to her own. In recent years, Shiatzy Chen not only expanded her fashion territory by being invited to launch fashion shows in Hong Kong, Korea, Singapore and Shanghai, but also devoted herself to non-profit activities.
She was named as one of the top nine outstanding Taiwanese women by France's Figaro Women’s Magazine in 1998, and received the Elite Diamond Medal award in the same year. In 2003 The Wall Street Journal Asia named Shiatzy Chen as one of the most representational fashion brand in Taiwan. In 2008 Shiatzy Chen made her first debute in Paris Fashion Week which came out as a great success. After four successful fashion shows, Shiatzy Chen became the official and only Chinese member of the Fédération Française de la Couture. In the same year, Shiatzy Chen was named as the Chinese fashion designer of the year by Elle Fashion Award China.
Shiatzy Chen believes that in order for Asian fashion to have a strong presence in the western design world, strengthening brand features and attributes would be top priority. Therefore, adding Chinese cultural concepts and elements in her design every season has become Shiatzy's signature style. In addition, Shiatzy Chen is convinced that aside from solid design concept and creativity, it is necessary to conform to international trend and add modern fashion aesthetics and lifestyle to clothing, so the essence of brand can live eternally. |
