Fibre2Fashion: What drew you to the fashion industry, and how would you describe your journey?
Susumu Miura:
When I was in junior high school, I was inspired to see Alexander McQueen’s first show on a late-night ‘Fashion Tsushin’ TV programme in Japan. That was my starting point.
F2F: How would you define your collection and where do you find your inspirations from?
SM:
For the past few seasons, I have been inspired by the universe. At first, I was inspired by space movies, although as I learned more about space, I became inspired by space itself. There is still so much we don't know about space, so I sometimes imagine the future and reflect it in my clothes making.
F2F: What were the hardships faced during the initial stage while launching your collection?
SM:
Shortage of funds.
F2F: Who is your target audience and where is the clientele majorly from?
SM:
The largest group of buyers is still in their 20s, but recently the number of customers in their 30s has been increasing.
F2F: How would you define fashion in your city and country? How has it evolved over the years?
SM:
Some aspects have evolved little by little, and some have degenerated, but I believe that COVID-19 has reset them and entered a new phase. I believe that the same system no longer works as before.
F2F: What does your brand have to offer to Gen-Z and millennials that makes your label stand out?
SM:
I think it’s the scent that this brand has. I feel that young people are responding to the invisible scent of the brand.
F2F: Brief about a few trending things in the fashion industry?
SM:
I create with my own sense of style, so I don’t create with “trend” in mind.
F2F: Any advice that you would like to share for aspiring fashion designers?
SM:
I think it is important to continue designing.
