Marc Cain was founded in 1973 by its Managing Director Helmut Schlotterer. The world wide operating business is managed from its headquarters in Bodelshausen, Germany.

The current 80 flatbed knitting machines can, for example, produce à jour effects, marquetry looks or braided patterns. The eight circular knitting machines are ideally suited to the production of hooped designs and fine jacquards, which are so typical of the style of the Marc Cain Collections. Marc Cain also devotes great attention to research and development. Each year, no less than 11,000 hours of development work facilitate the optimization of the pattern techniques and establish a sound basis for maintaining the outstanding quality level and the market-leading position of Marc Cain in terms of innovative knitting techniques.

The guideline principle for design of the collection is the concept of coordinates, the combinability of various components. For Marc Cain the idea of coordinated elements signifies not only the perfect matched harmonized outfit, but above all a subtle encounter between apparently widely varying individual elements.

In 2009 and 2010 about 36 million Euros were invested in a completely new production and administration building with state of the art furnishings and machines. These forward-looking investments can be seen as an explicit commitment to the German location.

Marc Cain Collections, the company's key label, combines sensuous silhouettes with cool, glamorous details - reflecting the spirit of the times with its own style and classiness.

Marc Cain Sports stands for casual and leisure wear: trendy, sporty, full of the joys of life. The label combines modern design with functionality and body consciousness.

The Marc Cain woman lives for today, is self-confident, open and full of curiosity. She loves being a woman, and expresses her personality through the clothes she wears naturally and as a matter of course.

The company currently has a staff of 800 employees in Germany alone and a sales volume of 210 Million Euros in 2011. Its sales volume is 160 million Euros. In Eastern Europe, another 2000 people are employed by Marc Cain Products in manufacturing of the ready-to-wear clothing.
