Womenswear
Very early in his career, Jean Paul Gaultier broke all the rules and reinvented the idea of women's fashion, instilling glamour and humour into a woman's wardrobe to make her even more stunning. His vision of femininity and seduction is unique. His designs truly echo the ever-changing face of society, which he has constantly re-invented both within his fashion as well as his fragrances.
In his own inimitable style, Jean Paul Gaultier set the party mood for his Spring-Summer 2013 collection. It included sharp tuxedos, jackets slashed open across the bust or cut out in the back, rock styling, sheer fabrics and mesh layers, brightly coloured Japanese prints, sequins, trompe-l’œil denim prints. The collection shows Jean Paul Gaultier's way of celebrating his manifold influences, wealth of ideas and freedom itself. This was a hommage to the 80’s Music Icones, with Amanda Lear as Special Disco Guest.
Menswear
For his Spring-Summer 2013 menswear collection, Jean Paul Gaultier unveils the virility of a seasoned traveler bedecked with Indian elegance. Hoisted high on platform deck shoes, wearing a colorful turban, man sports jacket with a pearl-embroidered sailor collar and a blazer embroidered with tattoo like tone-on-tone motifs. The couturier plays with his own codes: fishnets are transformed into a jacquard motif, while the iconic sailor stripes are reinterpreted in crochet. The toile de Jouy also gets a makeover featuring nautical scenes. Kilts are transformed into bermuda shorts. Trousers are pleated, sometimes flared or fluid, and high, very high-waisted and even laced up at the back.
The Menswear Autumn-Winter Ready-to-Wear 2012/2013 collection thrust guests onto the streets of London, somewhere between the chap style of Scotland Yard and the nonchalant rebellious look from the docks. The couturier brought together two traditionally opposing worlds to create vagabond dandies, combining a smart look with more streetwear influences. The fashion house's fundamental pieces such as the kilt, long skirt, leather trousers and military pattern were all a part of the collection.
