French Sole launched new 'Degas' Collection
French Sole had created a unique, limited edition collection of their famous 'ballet inspired' footwear in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Arts and the Degas and the Ballet: Picturing Movement exhibition.
With a lifelong love of the ballet and the work of Degas, designer Jane Winkworth had taken particular inspiration from Degas' Little Dancer Aged Fourteen, with an image of the little dancer embossed on the mirrored silver soles of the shoes and adorning each shoebox, produced specially for that remarkable collection.
Jane's personal background as an artist and painter is reflected in the collection, aiding her to capture the impressionist's colour palette in each design. Pale peach, cobalt blue, sea green, sepia and ballet slipper pink, help to recreate the chalky pastel tones of his work. Her choice of decorative embellishments echo the sense of theatrical drama associated with the Victorian Paris Opera House scenes as illustrated in Degas' work.
