Barbara Bui Summer 2014 collection

Denim Rock Couture – For this collection, denim is an authentic, indispensable and modern material. The designer uses it for its dignity and its power as she works with leather. To begin with, by working on the forms through cutting or shaping, where darts, ribs, topstitches and cut-outs sculpt the body. But also by taking the denim fabric as a surface medium using numerous processing and finishing techniques, like a living material that is worn, torn and textured until it is completely decorated to create stand-out pieces. To complement all these blues, the white cotton is expressly architectural and distinct. Instead of all monochrome, Barbara Bui wanted the surprise and mismatch of a red floral decoration on a milky vinyl background. The cool elegance of Serge Gainsbourg with bare feet in white Derbys and the irreverence of Jane Birkin in a mini-skirt or in flashy men trousers.
