Amancio Ortega Gaona

Amancio Ortega Gaona, chairman and founder of Inditex, was born in 1936 in Busdongo de Arbas, León. He moved to A Coruña with his family at an early age, and it was there that he began his business activities in the textile sector. After working with two well-known establishments in A Coruña, he ventured out with a business project of his own.

His first steps culminated in the creation, in 1963, of the company Confecciones GOA, a garment manufacturing company. Following an initial stage of growth in the area of production, the first store of the Zara chain opened on a central A Coruña street in 1975. In 1985, Amancio Ortega integrated Zara in a new holding company, Industria de Diseño Textil, INDITEX S.A.

In 2001 the Amancio Ortega Foundation was set up, a private non-profit organization aimed at promoting all types of activities in the fields of culture, education, research and science.

Mr. Pablo Isla Álvarez de Tejera - First Deputy Chairman and CEO

He has been the Chief Executive Officer since 2005. He is a graduate in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid and Abogado del Estado (State lawyer). He was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Altadis and co-CEO was joint-president of this group from July 2000.

From 1992 to 1996 he was Director of Legal Services for Banco Popular. He went on to be appointed General Director of State Assests at the Ministry of Economy and Finances. In 1998, he rejoined Banco Popular as General Secretary, until his appointment within the Altadis Group.

He was co-opted to the Board of Directors of Industria de Diseño Textil, S.A. (Inditex, S.A.) on 9 June 2005 and ratified by the AGM held on 15 July of that same year.

Likewise, he sits on the Board of Directors of Telefónica, S.A.

He holds 139,800 shares in the company.

Carlos Espinosa de los Monteros - Second Deputy Chairman

He has been an independent director since May 1997. A graduate in Law and Business Studies from ICADE, he is a Commercial Expert and State Economist and holds an MBA from Northwestern University. He has been the Deputy Chairman of the Instituto Nacional de Industria, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Iberia and Aviaco, member of the Executive Committee of the International Air Transport Association and Chairman of the Círculo de Empresarios, of the Spanish Association of Car and Truck Manufacturers and of the International Organisation of Motor-Vehicle Manufacturers and until 1st July 2009, he chaired the Board of Directors of Mercedes Benz España. At present, he is a director at Acciona, S.A.  and the Chairman of Fraternidad-Muprespa.
