FONDAZIONE NICOLA TRUSSARDI

Fondazione Nicola Trussardi is a non-profit nomadic museum that brings contemporary art directly into historical spaces and monuments throughout the city of Milan: its activities, which are always completely free of charge to the public, include two large-scale exhibitions a year, along with more flexible projects such as publications and events. The foundation sees the city as a storehouse of inspiration that is just waiting to be discovered, made up of art and culture, opportunities for dialogue, ideas to be promoted, and a wellspring of creative energy.

Over the last five years, Fondazione Nicola Trussardi has rediscovered some of the most important historic buildings in downtown Milan, and through its exhibitions, has once again made them accessible to the general public; examples include Palazzo Dugnani, Palazzo Litta, Palazzina Appiani at the Arena Civica, the former depot at Porta Genova station, the Institute for the Blind, Palazzo della Ragione, and the central octagon in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele. The artists' visions temporarily transform these locations into mechanisms for the dissemination of images; the foundation has presented ambitious projects that have left an indelible mark on the city's collective memory, such as the figures of hanged children in Piazza XXIV Maggio by Maurizio Cattelan, the giant man floating over Parco Sempione by Pawel Althamer, the large monochromatic zoo by Paola Pivi, the giant tree by Urs Fischer, the optimistic yet sarcastic neon sign by Martin Creed in Piazza del Duomo, the living sculptures by Tino Sehgal at Galleria d'Arte Moderna, the car and trailer that seemed to burst through the mosaics of the central octagon in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, by Michael Elmgreen & Ingar Dragset. The foundation also fosters dialogue with other national and international institutions: over the years, it has undertaken projects in partnership with the Venice Biennale, Tate Modern in London, Kunsthaus Z?rich, Carnegie International in Pittsburgh, Museo Morandi in Bologna, and the Frieze Art Fair in London.

Though Fondazione Nicola Trussardi, the Trussardi Group channels its resources and skills towards creating opportunities for cultural enrichment and towards making the most innovative work in contemporary art accessible to everyone. Fondazione Nicola Trussardi presents the public with a gift of art and culture, bringing them into every aspect of daily life.
